Maybe you didn’t get to go on vacation like you would’ve liked to this summer (you’re not alone) so why not give yourself a little staycation by spending a nice day in Anchorage?! Here are some of our ideas on how to spend the day with a loved one or friend visiting in town!
Go get breakfast. There are so many local and homemade dining options in the city that if you haven’t been to one yet, you must! Be a true Alaskan and try some dishes like King Crab Benedict!
After breakfast, a local favorite is walking or biking the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail to enjoy the breathtaking views of Cook Inlet and the amazing wildlife. If you are feeling more adventurous, take the shuttle to Chugach State Park! If you are not feeling up for the adventure and it happens to be a Saturday, check out the Anchorage Farmers Market for some locally grown and made goodies.
After all that walking or biking, you are bound to get hungry again! When lunchtime hits, take a stroll along the downtown streets and take a look at some local sidewalk vendors and try some foods that you can only find in a place like Alaska. Salmon quesadilla, anyone?
There are so many amenities that the city offers for tourists and locals to get the full experience. There are city walking tours, trolley tours, history tours, culinary tours, and even tours up in the sky! Have you ever been flightseeing?! Your Anchorage Staycation is the perfect time to do it! You can take flights from Lake Hood or Merrill Field for a jaw dropping experience. It’ll make you really appreciate the land that you call home and also for a good thrill!
When evening hits, it’ll be a hard choice deciding where to go for dinner since there are so many wonderful local options. Choose a place that offers outdoor seating so you can take in the breathtaking views of the Chugach Mountains and Cook Inlet while enjoying more local cuisine and a good drink.
The day may be coming to an end but our late sunsets will allow you to appreciate the beauty just a little longer. Aren’t you proud to be Alaskan?! Your little staycation is somebody else’s bucket list vacation!
